THIS REPORT describes alterations in lymphatic dynamics occurring subsequent to the development of metastases in either the lymphatic vessels or the lymph nodes. Any pattern of change has a bearing on the plan of treatment for cancer.
Materials and Methods
A modification1 of the Kinmonth technique2 was used in more than 100 patients.
In addition to radiopaque ethiodized oil (Ethiodol) (an ethyl ester of iodized poppyseed oil containing 37.0% iodine), some of the patients received endolymphatically gold Au 198, yttrium 90 micromicrospheres, or ethiodized oil I 131 (Ethiodol 131) for purposes of internal therapeutic irradiation. The presence of the radioactive isotopes apparently did not influence the distribution of the diagnostic radiopaque ethiodized oil. We are presently engaged in a study of endolymphatic radioactive isotopic administration; the preliminary results have been published.1
